Improvement?

Digital Art isn't as easy as it looks. It takes time, patience, and effort; more so than regular traditional art that one does on paper. I have many friends that are artists that I've met on the art site deviantART and they have improved tenfold in the year and a half I've known them.  Browsing through my messages, I always come across simply perfect art. Clean and smooth line-arting style, beautiful coloring, anatomy correct poses, and i just stare at the screen, wishing my art was as good as theirs.

Guess what? I've been drawing all my life on paper. However, 2 years ago, I bugged my father to buy me a tablet  for Christmas and finally he bought me it.  I remember being so excited to finally be able to tackle drawing online and making decent art for the public. I always heard from fellow artists that digital art really helps you improve on your art style and your patience. I was on a mission from that day forward to get better at art.

I finally drew my first picture with my tablet... and It wasn't even close to how I wanted it to be. I had to get used to holding the pen, moving it, and getting the feel of the program in general.  I didn't even keep any of my old art when I cleaned out my art folder a couple months ago because it was so horrible and my eyes bled whenever I saw it.

After a few months, I started to get the hang of it, and I actually kept those art pieces. Here are some of the art pieces I completed the Christmas of 2010.

I felt like I needed to get even better than I was at the time, because in reality, my art was crap. Total utter crap. People were lying to me saying how it was 'good' and I knew they were. I could feel it. Pushing that aside, I kept drawing even more and looking at references.

Finally after a year, I started to draw even better and I finally found the style I was okay with. (I'm still messing with my style now, but at least it's getting better slowly ). It took a long time, but in those 2 years, I was able to improve a lot and become egotistical in my art even if that's a horrible habit to have. I just can't help it, it's part of me now.
